Final 23 Things Post
As I stated at the end of my last post…this experience has been a good one! I believe since Week 11 was a week off that I have completed the assisgnment. If anyone is checking on this please let me know if I am missing anything or need to do something over. I hope others learned as much as I did. It was a little more detailed that I thought it might be and took way more time than I ever thought. This could have been because I struggled on a few of the lessons where I wasn’t familiar with what we were doing. I love that I at least have done these items and will be able to help patrons or explain some of these new technologies now. I also have used several of these things and plan to use some others. Thanks to everyone who put this learning tool together.

Week 12: Screencasting
This is the week that I have been putting off. I was able to do the screencast this morning with Screencast-O-Matic. After a lesson from Charlene Mcguire yesterday I was able to do the screencast this morning and even had a little. I did find an error on my screencast but I will correct it when I do the real one that I will attach to my website. I can see where this tool would be really handy. I showed my screencast to a few people that had never seen one before and they were impressed that we will be able to generate these and post them. Thank you 23 Things…to my knowledge I am done but I have learned a little bit about many things. Many I will use in the future. Thank you everyone for your efforts on putting this together!!!!

Week 15: Wikis
This lesson seemed very daunting to me in the beginning but I was able to do both activities without assistance so I was very proud. LOL I was able to do Activity 2 first and then was more comfortable to go look at other things. I was even able to add a picture to my profile and felt good about that. I created my page with no trouble or maybe just a little. I think went looking at other wikis and was not brave enough to hchange anything but was able to see the variety of uses. I saw discussions on top tv shows all the way to discussing how to play new games. I also got onto those suggested in the lesson. Looks like fun and I can see it being useful. If I had it to do all over again I would be trying this with my upcoming family trip to Chicago. Planning would have been much easier.

Week 10: Video on the Web
I have seen alot of youtube videos but I usually don’t go out looking for them or just sitting and enjoying looking them up. So this week helped me learn to do that also. I finally found some enjoyment in browsing through and having a few chuckles. I choose one that I hope people get a chuckle out of it. I was able to place this on facebook and my blog. I am getting more used to some of the technology with the 23 things that I am better at following the directions or locating the information on my own. I was putting this week off but after I did it I wondered why. I think this is another tech tool I will use. Thank you.

Week 13: Slide Sharing
This was so much fun!!!! If I wasn’t three weeks behind on lessons I would have played even more…lol. I had been introduced to Animoto one other time but it had been a while. I was able to get on and it was so easy to use. I didn’t remember that from before. I took pictures of some of the fun areas in our library and put them into a slide show. Choosing the music was the hardest thing for me because I don’t know much about songs and their artists to be sure they were appropriate. I did some editing after the first try and was able to add text and move some things around so they made more sense to me. I think when I have a little more time I will embed this to my web site. I think it will be inviting to new patrons. Thanks for this lesson.

Week 14: Library Thing, Etc.
I tried to get into Shelfari but for some reason it was not working on Monday when I was trying. So I decided to go with Google and try their equivalent. This looks like it is going to work very well for me since we do so many other things with google or from google. I think that I will really nice and handy to use. I was able to post a review on a book that I am reading and it seemed very easy to use. Many library patrons ask for a good book and I am always forgetting the titles of things I have read and really liked so this will be a benefit to me at work also. I also think that I will like to aspect of putting books into it that I really want to read. As I catalog books there are always a few I really want to read but don’t have time for at that minute so now I can make a note of them and come back to them. This has been a week when I have found a new tech item that I think will be very useful. Thank you.

Week Nine: Instant Messaging
Instant Messaging is one of my favorite things to do. I still use MSN Messenger but I also use Facebook Chat. It is a fun way to connect to fellow librarians, family, and friends. I like it to keep up on what is going on in the library world. A few fellow librarians and myself help keep each other on top of what reports might be due or workshops coming up. Occasionally, we might even share a laugh about something that happened in our library or complain about something else that might have happened.
I didn’t know that you could log into Meebo and catch several chats at one time. The only experience with Meebo that I had was putting it on my web site for people to contact me from the site. It was easy to sign into Meebo and start using it. I was able to chat with a friend right away it seemed. I will continue to add people to Meebo so I can chat with them also.
This will also be a useful 23 Things Item. I plan to share Meebo with others that I know who also share my love of messaging.
